Your Future Ghost, a new indie synth-rock group made up of Kate Voegele and Michael Grubbs, have gone straight to #1 with their debut release "We've Got Places".
Historically, ever since 2015 and the "Piece By Piece" era, Kelly Clarkson has led my chart's leaderboard with the most #1's. However, Kate Voegele has challenged this, and her continued releases brought her into a tie back in 2020 for most #1's. Kelly returned earlier this year with two more #1's from her latest album "Chemistry", but Kate certainly wasn't going to let her keep this honour to herself, as within the past four weeks, she has now had two more #1's... which brings her into, once again, a tie for most #1's; Kate and Kelly have 29 #1's each now. But don't count Kelly out yet - "Rock Hudson" is staying strong at #3 and "Roses" is up to #7! (Ironically enough, one of Kate's songs that just missed, peaking at #2? "Don't Count Me Out"!)
This also gives Kate, for the third time in her career, a domination of the top two. She previously did this in 2009 with "99 Times" and "Manhattan From The Sky", and in 2017 with "Catch Me On Fire" and "World Stops Spinning".
The Rolling Stones follow up their 2020 hit "Living In A Ghost Town", with another top 10 follow-up, this one, "Angry", leading off their forthcoming album "Hackney Diamonds". Appropriately, they land right above a cover of their old archrivals the Beatles, recorded by Dolly Parton with the two surviving Beatles, proving that the 60-year rivalry between the Beatles and the Stones continues on to this day. (The Stones have also just released a new song with Lady Gaga from their forthcoming album - I'd expect it to make it on next week.)
After accumulating many chart hits, Sabrina Carpenter finally gets her first top 10 with "Feather" as it rises 17-10.
While her previous two singles are dropping fast, Olivia Rodrigo is wasting no time getting herself back in my top 20 as "Get Him Back" rises 34-17 and could be her fourth overall, and second from "Guts", top 10 hit.
Christina Aguilera is back, this time with a song from the "Paw Patrol" movie. "Learning To Fly" enters at #30.
They've been a favourite on the pop-punk scene for many years now, but Philly rockers Grayscale now have their very first appearance on the chart, as "Not Afraid To Die" enters at #31.
Carly Rae Jepsen continues the hit streak from her album "The Loveliest Time" as "Come Over" enters at #44.
We also see the latest releases from British synthpop titans Duran Duran, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Depeche Mode each with their latest (what year is this anyway?), singer-actress Reneé Rapp following up her current top 20 hit, the return of Blink 182 with their very emotional "One More Time" (the other single "More Than You Know" could also make the chart in the coming weeks), Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, folk-rockers Haim with their "Barbie" soundtrack contribution, 90's alt-rockers Everclear, alternative singer-songwriter Weyes Blood, TikTok sensation Bella Poarch, an EDM hit from Loud Luxury with vocals from Bebe Rexha, Croatian rocker Jelusick following up his former top 20, still charting hit, and alternative group Concrete Castles, debuting this week.
After 24 weeks, we say goodbye to Kelly Clarkson's former #1 hit "Me" - but she has nothing to fear as she has three of the current top 20, with "Favorite Kind Of High" now the longest running song at 19 weeks - the first 18 of which were in the top 10.
And to celebrate the return of Christina Aguilera, we go back to 2008 for this week's chart flashback where she had the #1 song with her greatest hits single, "Keeps Gettin' Better". To this day, it remains one of my favourite Christina Aguilera singles.
