It's week #3 for Kelly Clarkson as "I Dare You" holds on to #1 for a third straight week. This is her 27th #1 so far, the most for any artist in chart history. It makes her the fourth artist, following Alanis Morissette, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, to hit #1 in the 2000's, 2010's and 2020's.
Possible contenders for the next #1 include Calgary's Kiesza, rising 3-2 and looking for her 2nd #1 with "All Of The Feelings"; Dua Lipa, up 4-3 and looking for her 3rd #1 with "Break My Heart", and 5 Seconds Of Summer, who rise 9-5 and are looking to follow last year's "Teeth" with a second #1 with "Wildflower". Entering the top 10 this week is Irish indie band Inhaler with their first appearance, "We Have To Move On". Lead singer Elijah Hewson is the son of U2's Bono; U2 have had four #1's to date, making them the first parent-child pair to have top 10 hits on my chart. Other parents and children who have charted are Phil Collins and son Simon; Chris Cornell and daughter Toni; Billy Ray Cyrus and children Miley, Noah and Trace; Ozzy Osbourne and daughter Kelly; Randy Bachman and son Tal; Neneh Cherry and daughter Mabel; Bob Dylan and son Jakob; Elvis Presley and daughter Lisa Marie; Brian Wilson and daughters Carnie and Wendy; Dave Stewart, daughter Kaya and sons Django and Samuel (of Nightmare And The Cat; additionally their mother, Siobhan Fahey, charted with Shakespear's Sister); Leonard Cohen and son Adam; Will Smith, daugher Willow and son Jaden, and maybe more that I have forgotten. Chris Osmond is currently charting (up 28-25), but his father Donny has yet to chart; his aunt Marie has though. British boyband Lawson, Styx lead singer Dennis DeYoung (accompanied by Julian Lennon), and soul diva Toni Braxton all enter the top 40, along with four debuts. This includes the return of chart mainstays Evanescence, who had six top 10 hits from 2003 to 2011, with "Wasted On You"; The 1975, who continue their hit streak with "If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know)"; the legendary Rolling Stones, with a COVID-19 lyrically appropriate single "Living In A Ghost Town"; and Niall Horan, who gets his fourth charting single from his latest album, the title track "Heartbreak Weather". Several songs inspired by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic have already charted, such as "Level Of Concern" by Twenty One Pilots, "I Think We're Alone Now" by Billie Joe Armstrong, "Atlas Falls" by Shinedown and the recent #65 peaking "Quarantine" by Boy Epic. This week, they are joined by several others. The Canadian effort, featuring various Canadian artists covering the late Bill Withers's classic "Lean On Me", debuts at #49; Bill Withers died on March 30, 2020 at age 81. Speaking of Canadians, Avril Lavigne also has her own relief single as "We Are Warriors", a reworked version of her track from her latest album "Warrior", enters at #87. And several various artists, mostly British, have teamed up for a Live Lounge Allstars cover of the Foo Fighters song "Times Like These" at #88. This is the third Foo Fighters cover to chart; previously, Anastacia covered "Best Of You" and Cherri Bomb (now known as Hey Violet) covered "The Pretender". And as a tribute to the closure of one of my favourite record stores ever, the iconic and legendary Amoeba Music store at 6400 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, California, which had to close early due to COVID-19 and will not reopen before their move to 6200 Hollywood Blvd. this fall, I'm flashing back to this week in 2011, around the time of my first (and so far, only) visit to Los Angeles, where I paid Amoeba a visit and bought several CD's; four of which were represented in the top 10 that week, including Duran Duran's "All You Need Is Now", Britney Spears's "Femme Fatale", The Script's "Science & Faith" and Adele's "21". Hey - this is a super weird request, but I'm looking for a physical CD copy of CFCrew's "Take A Look Inside" and a Google search of it leads me to a decades+ old forum post you once made about how you had the CD. I was wondering if there was any chance you still had that, and if so, I could buy it off of you. Thanks!
