Freaky Fly Bry's Top 100 - October 21, 2012

This week, the revolving door at #1 continues, as we have yet again a new #1! This time, it comes from Adele and her James Bond theme "Skyfall", rising 3-1 and becoming her second #1 following last year's "Someone Like You". It's also the first James Bond theme to hit #1; "Die Another Day" by Madonna peaked at #3.

With One Direction's former #1 falling to #2, this marks the first time since April 2003 that the top 2 have both been by British artists; Daniel Bedingfield had #1 then with "If You're Not The One", which held Coldplay's "Clocks" at #2.

In a rather odd coincidence, No Doubt scores their 6th top 5 hit, and 12th top 5 for Gwen Stefani overall, rising 10-5 with "Looking Hot". The coincidence? Gwen made the exact same 10-5 climb exactly 8 years ago with "What You Waiting For?"

Only one new song enters the top 10 this week, and it's by two familiar acts to the top 10! Lifehouse and Natasha Bedingfield both get their 8th top 10's this week as they collaborate on "Between The Raindrops". Can it become the third #1 for both artists?

While Ryan Cabrera is still patiently waiting for his chance at his 8th top 10 with "Home" as it rises in that direction and No Doubt tries to "push and shove" their way to the top 10 to join their other song "Looking Hot" which is already there, it's clear that they've had their breath taken away by Kelly Clarkson, as she catches her breath and rises 29 spots to leap to #13 with the lead single from her greatest hits album. 13 may very well be her lucky number, as if she takes "Catch My Breath" to #1, it will become her 13th, putting her into a tie for 3rd place for most #1's. This also gives Kelly three simultaneous top 40 hits; with both her and No Doubt at 3 apiece in the top 40, I'm not sure if there have ever been two artists with three top 40 hits at the same time before.

Canadian singer Anjulie rises 32-20 with her latest "You And I", scoring her biggest hit to date, beating the peak of her hit from last year, "Brand New Chick".

In the rest of the top 40, two more new entries make it, coming from the collaboration of Heart and Sarah McLachlan who are "walkin' good" as in the good direction on the chart - up, as well as Tegan & Sara with their biggest hit to date, "Closer".

As we see new songs from Bruno Mars, Swedish House Mafia, Enrique Iglesias and Cher Lloyd rising towards the top 40 and hoping to take advantage of 36-40 looking to be on their way out, two top 100 debuts make it into the top 50. Maroon 5 unsurprisingly is the highest with the third single from their "Overexposed" album, "Daylight". If it hits #1, it will become the band's 10th #1, becoming the first group to accomplish this. The other acts to have done this are all females: Britney Spears (17), Michelle Branch (14), Kate Voegele (13), Kelly Clarkson (12), and Christina Aguilera (12). Also entering in the top 50 is Luke McMaster, formerly of the duo McMaster and James, who previously released an album in 2000 containing several Canadian radio hits.

In the 60's range, we see four new songs: Nicki Minaj with yet another catchy tune "Va Va Voom", the return of classic rockers the Rolling Stones with "Doom And Gloom", Anastacia's cover of the Foo Fighters' "Best Of You" and an acoustic track from Yellowcard, "Telescope".

Further new entries include the second charting collaboration between British stars Calvin Harris and Florence Welch, the fifth charting single from Kristina Maria, Canadian rockers My Darkest Days, Canadian rapper gone rock K-Os, actress and part-time singer Hayden Panettiere gone country from her new show "Nashville", Christian musician Manafest, Christian rockers Flyleaf, a collaboration between Justin Bieber and (here she is again) Nicki Minaj, Romanian dance diva Alexandra Stan, the third single from Outasight and veteran modern rockers Linkin Park with their 19th chart appearance.
