Special 10th Anniversary Edition

This week marks the 10th anniversary of my chart; the first edition was compiled on January 10, 1999.

It is appropriate then, that the #1 song is by an artist who has had hits on my chart since the beginning. Britney Spears was at #3 on my first chart with "Baby One More Time", and this week she ascends to #1 for the 13th time with "Circus". Last week's #1 from Katy Perry falls to #2 despite keeping her bullet.

Inside the top 10, while another original charter, Celine Dion (who was #6 on my first chart with her duet with R. Kelly, "I'm Your Angel") stays at #8 for another week, two other artists end their long droughts of not hitting the top 10, both of which were on my first chart as well! Third Eye Blind scores their third top 10 hit as "Non-Dairy Creamer" rises 13-9 and the Offspring's non-typical ballad "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay" is also their third top 10 hit, rising 12-10. On my first chart, "Jumper" was #12 and "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)", a future #1, was #16. Third Eye Blind was last in the top 10 on April 16, 2000 with "Never Let You Go", while the Offspring's last top 10 was "Why Don't You Get A Job", on June 6, 1999. The previous record holder was Collective Soul, who waited 8 and a half years between top 10 hits, from "Run" in 1999 to "Hollywood" in 2007.

Looking towards the future, and below the top 10, are artists who had previously been underrated on my chart but are looking towards their first top 10's: Canadian singer Lights rises 26-14 with "February Air", American light-rockers The Fray rises 24-16 with "You Found Me", and British girl group The Saturdays rise 40-18 with "Issues".

Also looking promising are The Killers (27-21), Lily Allen (36-26), and Nickelback (37-27).

2 new songs enter the top 40 this week; Girls Aloud's 10th top 40 hit in a very inconsistent career, "The Loving Kind", and Nick Lachey's return at #34 with his cover of Take That's #32 hit from 2 years ago, "Patience". This is Nick's third solo top 40 hit; his previous 2 were in 2006.

The highest top 100 entry is, rather unsurprisingly, Kate Voegele, with her 7th chart entry, "Devil In Me". All of her 6 previous hits on my chart reached the top 10; including all of her songs in the tally, she has not been outside the top 10 since the first week of March 2008.

Jesse McCartney follows up his top 10 "It's Over", with "How Do You Sleep" at #61; Kings of Leon and Jazmine Sullivan make their chart debuts; James Morrison, Robyn, Ne-Yo, O.A.R., India.Arie, 12 Stones and Sum 41 all return as well. Aside from James Morrison (despite featuring Nelly Furtado, who has had multiple hits) and 12 Stones (despite Paul McCoy featuring on Evanescence's #1 "Bring Me To Life"), all the others have had previous top 20 hits.
