Top 100 songs of 1999-2008 (401-500)
As you may have noticed, my chart celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year. So what better time than to look back on my favourites of the past 10 years?
500. Evan & Jaron - Crazy For This Girl (2001) PEAK: #7
We kick the list off with a duo of twin brothers who had a few hits back in the early part of the 2000's. However, this song was by far their biggest hit, and also managed to make the top 10 on my chart.
499. Craig David - Walking Away (2002) PEAK: #6
When it comes to UK male R&B singers, over the past decade Craig David is the name that comes to mind. This song, the third single from his album "Born To Do It", is one of many hits he's scored this decade.
498. Rihanna - Pon De Replay (2005) PEAK: #7
Now to the launch of one of the most successful female artists of the decade. This catchy rhythm almost branded her as a one-hit wonder, but she has defied expectations and continued to have hits, several of which are still to come.
497. Nelly - Country Grammar (2000) PEAK: #8
And now for one of the most successful rappers of the decade, also with his debut single. He's been very hit or miss for me, but he has several hits in my top 500, with this debut single being the first of several for Nelly.
496. Mya - Case Of The Ex (2000) PEAK: #9
Mya originally got her start as a featured singer on songs from artists like Pras Michel and Blackstreet, but this helped break her through as a solo artist, despite having released one previous solo album. Her huge collaboration, "Lady Marmalade", is still to come... but how high did it rank?
495. Sugababes - Ugly (2006) PEAK: #5
The Sugababes have been one of the most successful UK girl groups of the decade, and this is probably the song with the most meaningful message that they've done. Still more to come from these ladies.
494. Shakira - Objection (Tango) (2002) PEAK: #2
If there's one thing Shakira's known for doing, it's getting everyone's hips shaking! This floorfiller gets everyone doing the tango! Still a few more songs from the Colombian pop goddess to come.
493. Backstreet Boys - The Call (2001) PEAK: #3
While not one of their instantly most memorable songs, this gives the Backstreet Boys one of many appearances in this list... and with seven #1's to their credit, it's no surprise that they are very well-represented!
492. Mariah Carey - Heartbreaker (1999) PEAK: #4
Mariah Carey's been very hit or miss for me over the past decade. However, this catchy song from her "Rainbow" album was one of the highlights of her tumultuous career. How many songs from "The Emancipation of Mimi", one of her biggest albums to date, made it?
491. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California (2006) PEAK: #4
Undoubtedly one of the most successful alternative rock bands ever, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have continued to hit strong two decades after their breakthrough. This song became one of their biggest hits, and just managed to end up in my top 500 of the past decade.
490. James Blunt - 1973 (2007) PEAK: #8
While his second album "All The Lost Souls" generally disappointed me, I did end up liking this lead single enough to make my top 10, and it ended up ranking in my top 500.
489. Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up (2008) PEAK: #6
This song had one of 2008's most misheard lyrics... but either way, this broke the Nicole Scherzinger flop curse and became another top 10 hit for the Pussycat Dolls. They still have a few more to come from their debut album.
488. Eminem - The Real Slim Shady (2000) PEAK: #5
This was one of many Eminem songs containing the celebrity disses that helped make him famous. Still a few more from him to come, as he's been one of my favourite rappers of the decade.
487. Gavin DeGraw - I Don't Want To Be (2004) PEAK: #5
After being popularized in the TV show "One Tree Hill", this song helped break Gavin DeGraw into the mainstream and was the first of several hits for him.
486. Jennifer Lopez - Let's Get Loud (2000) PEAK: #4
While this song wasn't released everywhere the first 3 singles were, I thought it was good enough to make the top 5 on my chart, her fourth of eleven straight top 5's on my chart. So naturally, expect more J-Lo to come.
485. Alanis Morissette - Unsent (1999) PEAK: #3
A very different sounding song for Alanis, and while it didn't become the hit that her previous singles (which pre-dated my chart but would've ranked) were, it caught on on my chart, and became a top 5 hit for her.
484. Kate Voegele - I Get It (2008) PEAK: #8
Kate Voegele dominated my chart in 2008, and while her other songs are still to come, this one was her only one that missed my top 5. Still, it had enough longevity to rank in my top 500 charted songs to date.
483. James Blunt - Goodbye My Lover (2006) PEAK: #3
Now for another James Blunt song, this being one of my favourites on the "Back To Bedlam" album. This ballad showed off his emotional vulnerability, which really enhanced it for me. But how high is his big hit "You're Beautiful"?
482. No Doubt - Hella Good (2002) PEAK: #5
No Doubt experimented with new sounds on their "Rock Steady" album, and this song, where they worked with the Neptunes, showed it. Still 2 more to come from this album, both of which peaked at #3 on my chart.
481. Our Lady Peace - Innocent (2002) PEAK: #6
Our Lady Peace has been one of Canada's most successful rock bands for a decade and a half now, and that success has, from time to time, spilled onto my chart. Following up their huge #1 "Somewhere Out There", this managed to make the top 10 as well, and finishes the past 10 years at #481.
470. Jewel - Again And Again (2006) PEAK: #1 (1 week)
And here we are, the first of 200 #1's to appear in the top 500. While I had anticipated new music from Jewel in 2006, and this song I did end up liking enough to reach #1 on my chart, it just did not have the lasting appeal of her classics for me. So, as such, it's the lowest-ranked of all the #1's on the entire list. Still, there is more Jewel to come!
469. John Rzeznik - I'm Still Here (2003) PEAK: #4
John Rzeznik, lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls, briefly branched out solo for the soundtrack to the film "Treasure Planet", where he contributed this song. Just as good as anything the Goo Goo Dolls ever released, this one became a top 5 hit on my chart. Still more Goo to come after this!
468. Pink - Most Girls (2000) PEAK: #11
One of the artists that appears the most in here is Pink, and this song, while one of her biggest hits on the radio, failed to enter the top 10 on my chart! Despite that, it did have longevity, and managed to rank in the top 500, over some of her top 10's that failed to make it! Still plenty more Pink to come, including all six of her #1's.
467. Chantal Kreviazuk - In This Life (2002) PEAK: #12
This was probably my most anticipated song from this Canadian piano-playing veteran singer... and it certainly lived up to expectations! This was another song that, while it failed to enter my top 10, still had enough longevity to rank in the final 500.
466. Eamon - F**k It (I Don't Want You Back) (2004) PEAK: #12
Who would've thought swearing so much would get a hit? And it isn't even by a rapper! Despite the novelty aspect of a ballad containing so much swearing, this song actually had longevity for me, and while it branded Eamon as a one-hit wonder, his one hit was memorable enough to rank in my top 500 of the past 10 years.
465. Brian McKnight - Back At One (1999) PEAK: #7
One of the best male R&B vocalists of the 90's was Brian McKnight, whose smooth grooves included many memorable songs. This was one of my favourites from him, a ballad typical of his style that I enjoyed as well for the lyrics, a step-by-step manual of how to win a woman's heart. Nothing he's done after this has managed to match it, or his other 90's classics, though.
464. Theory Of A Deadman - All Or Nothing (2008) PEAK: #1 (2 weeks)
And now we're up to the second #1 to crash out. This song is another that I liked enough to get to the top, but failed to have longevity for me. Still, it was all in due time, as they'd had several hits for about 5 years before they finally got that #1. I still think this is my favourite from them though.
463. Mandy Moore - Cry (2002) PEAK: #7
Mandy Moore, teen-pop starlet, branched out into acting with her film "A Walk To Remember", so it wasn't a surprise that one of her songs was used in the soundtrack. This ballad became one of my favourites from her to date, and ranks at #463 for the past 10 years.
462. Evanescence - Lithium (2007) PEAK: #2
After the success of their #1 "Call Me When You're Sober", the chances for the follow-up looked promising too. While it failed to become a hit on the actual charts, this dark ballad became a #2 hit on my own chart (behind "Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavigne), and managed its way into the top 500, one of several Evanescence songs to make it.
461. Jason Mraz - Wordplay (2005) PEAK: #9
And here we have Jason Mraz, whose album title "Mr. A-Z" was a perfect example of wordplay. This song was the quirky, humourous kind of song I'd expected from him after his debut single "The Remedy", and did not disappoint me one bit, giving him another top 10 on my chart. Clever lyrics like in this song are the kind of things I like hearing the most from him.
460. Lenny Kravitz - Where Are We Runnin' (2004) PEAK: #6
Lenny Kravitz is one of the most diverse musicians around... but I feel that his rockers are among his best songs... this being one of them. While not one of his absolute biggest hits, it remains a favourite of mine, and was a top 10 hit on my chart in 2004.
459. Pink - Family Portrait (2002) PEAK: #8
This showed Pink can do emotional songs as well as the fun songs she's known for... it touches on her parents' divorce and how she handled it when she was a kid. This side of Pink definitely worked out well, giving her another top 10 hit and the #459 song of the past 10 years.
458. Amanda Marshall - Everybody's Got A Story (2001) PEAK: #8
Another Canadian singer who I've enjoyed over the years is Amanda Marshall, particularly on her debut album. This song, one of her more uniquely-written songs, became one of her biggest hits in Canada, and was a top 10 hit on my chart upon release.
457. Janet Jackson - Feedback (2008) PEAK: #3
Now here's for a singer who had slumped for a while before this, but seems like she always gets at least one top 10 hit on every album she releases on my chart. This one ended up being her biggest hit in seven years on my chart, and my favourite since the nipple slip at the Super Bowl, after which she has failed to reach the success of her past singles.
456. Bran Van 3000 - Astounded (2001) PEAK: #6
Bran Van 3000 has always had a very unique sound... and this song combined a disco beat with unreleased vocals by the late Curtis Mayfield, and made for a cool song that reached the top 10 on my chart, but had an odd run!
455. Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me (2002) PEAK: #5
Puddle of Mudd is one of the most successful alternative rock bands of the decade... and this song was actually my favourite from them, probably due to its humour value! It's remained my favourite from them since.
454. Matchbox Twenty - Disease (2002) PEAK: #8
I've always liked Matchbox Twenty... however, just when they were going "soft", they still showed they had some rock in them with this song. While not one of their absolute biggest hits, it was still enough of a hit to make it into my top 500.
453. Jet - Look What You've Done (2005) PEAK: #4
I really did not like their debut single "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", so it was a pleasant surprise when these Aussies released this Beatles-sounding track! It ended up peaking within the top 5 on my chart, and so far remains by far my favourite from them.
452. Anastacia - Left Outside Alone (2004) PEAK: #8
Here's a song that's become a worldwide classic... pretty much everywhere except her homeland of the USA! It was her biggest UK hit, and remains one of my favourites from her. However, one other song managed to beat it from her!
451. Dream - He Loves U Not (2001) PEAK: #2
Now we go to an American girl group put together by the then-Puff Daddy (and I'm not even sure what he calls himself these days!) Unfortunately, they were short-lived, only having a few hits, but this one was one of the best pop songs of its era, and managed to hit the runner-up spot on my chart, only trailing Pink's "You Make Me Sick".
450. Melanie C f/Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes - Never Be The Same Again (2000) PEAK: #3
A collaboration between members of two of the most successful girl groups ever, Melanie C scores the only solo Spice entry on the entire list. Emma and Geri both narrowly missed the top 500.
449. Amber & Zelma Davis - No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) (2008) PEAK: #10
Another collaboration here, this time between 2 dance divas most popular in the 1990's. This is a remake of the Donna Summer/Barbra Streisand hit from 1979, and I find it's quite faithful to the original.
448. Kid Rock - Only God Knows Why (2000) PEAK: #9
Kid Rock has been known for his unique rap/rock style... but this one took me by surprise as it's a ballad, complete with auto-tune! This was one of his first big hits, and certainly wasn't the last... expect more Kid Rock to come later in the list.
447. Daft Punk - One More Time (2001) PEAK: #10
A few dance songs manage to make this list, including this entry from French dance act Daft Punk! While their songs are often repetitive, they can be quite catchy, this one being my favourite from them.
446. Nelly Furtado - Powerless (Say What You Want) (2003) PEAK: #4
Another single I anticipated after the immense success of her "Whoa Nelly" album, and while this didn't quite have the lasting appeal of that album's first 2 singles, it was still good enough to be a top 5 hit on my chart.
445. Kylie Minogue - Wow (2008) PEAK: #4
Sometimes the simplest titles are the best... and "Wow" describes this song perfectly. While I felt "X" was overall one of her best albums yet, some of the wrong songs were released as singles... but this was one I felt was a right single choice. And I'm glad it was, as it made the top 5 on my chart.
444. Third Eye Blind - Never Let You Go (2000) PEAK: #6
Another case of a lead single from an anticipated second album; I'd enjoyed the singles from their first album (particularly 1997's "Semi-Charmed Life"), and this definitely wasn't a letdown, reaching the top 10 on my chart, a position they didn't reach again until just last week.
443. Fefe Dobson - Everything (2004) PEAK: #4
After the success of Avril Lavigne, several other Canadian singers in the similar mold showed up, Fefe Dobson being one of them. This ballad became my favourite song from her, and makes it into my top 500.
442. Barenaked Ladies - Another Postcard (2003) PEAK: #3
You can always count on the Barenaked Ladies to come up with a crazy idea for a song... this time it was all about the chimpanzees! Imagine receiving so many different postcards with pictures of chimps on them... well, that's exactly what this song is about!
441. 98 Degrees - Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche) (2000) PEAK: #1 (1 week)
And now to another #1, and this one also didn't really have lasting appeal for me. Despite that, it still managed to make the top 500 list, though another 98 Degrees song that didn't even hit the top 5 on my chart beat it out!
440. Elise Estrada - Unlove You (2008) PEAK: #4
Canada has had many talented singers that have not had much fame elsewhere. Elise Estrada was born in the Philippines, then moved to Canada to start her music career, where she has so far scored several hits off her debut album. "Unlove You", a JoJo-esque midtempo ballad, became by far my favourite from her to date.
439. Melissa O'Neil - Alive (2005) PEAK: #7
Another Canadian singer here, and this one won Canadian Idol's third season. Several stars have come out of Canadian Idol, but this is one case where one of them actually had a winning song I really liked (as generally, most of them I find to be really generic.) Hopefully she'll have some new stuff one day!
438. LFO - Every Other Time (2001) PEAK: #5
These guys are generally best known for their 1999 hits "Summer Girls" and "Girl On TV", but they continued beyond then... and this song, a light, uptempo pop song, became my favourite from them so far. It has among the humourous lines that make their songs great, and made my top 5 back in 2001.
437. Nelly - Ride Wit Me (2001) PEAK: #5
Despite being more uptempo than his previous 2 singles, this is more laid back! This doesn't really have the "street" sound that his first 2 hits did, but it worked well for him, and paved the way for many of his future hits.
436. Colbie Caillat - Realize (2008) PEAK: #1 (1 week)
I realize this was a pretty big hit for me last year, and I also realize that Colbie Caillat made her way into my top 500 songs of the past decade. I also realize this may be kinda low, but I realize a lot of her run was below the top 40 on my chart, and I realize those positions don't count for this big list.
435. Travis - Closer (2007) PEAK: #7
Who would've expected it? I'd enjoyed some Travis songs before this, but none to the extent I enjoyed this song. Just goes to show that some songs really surprise me as to how good they are, and this was definitely a case of that!
434. Roz Bell - Yesterday Man (2007) PEAK: #5
A Canadian artist here who's so far released one album, with this, the debut single from it, showing off his unique voice very well. Hopefully he'll have future success in addition to this!
433. Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned (2007) PEAK: #3
I normally enjoyed Justin in 'N Sync, but as a solo artist, he's been very hit or miss. This catchy, uptempo, funky pop song became one of my favourites from him, and reached #3 on my chart, giving him another "FutureSex/LoveSounds" hit. Still more Justin to come.
432. Goo Goo Dolls - Here Is Gone (2002) PEAK: #8
Another return for these guys, after being away for a few years, they came back strong in 2002 with the "Gutterflower" album. This, the lead-off single, was one of the best songs they've done so far, and became a top 10 hit on my chart. Still plenty more Goo to come!
431. Sugar Ray - Someday (1999) PEAK: #8
And another song from a band of the same era is here, Sugar Ray had several hits in the late 90's and early 00's. This followed up their #1 hit "Every Morning", and also managed to make the top 10, ranking at #431 for the past 10 years.
430. Mika - Grace Kelly (2007) PEAK: #3
One of 2007's most creative newcomers is Mika, who took the world by storm with this catchy pop song. And while he did have a few hits following it, none of them would make the same impact on my chart of this song, which would reach #3 on my chart.
429. Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music (2007) PEAK: #6
If anything, during her time on the music scene, Rihanna has shown a lot of diversity, including doing a more dance-influenced song here. This became one of my favourites from her, and had longevity for only a #6 peak, resulting in being ranked in here.
428. Gavin DeGraw - Chariot (2005) PEAK: #8
He kept trying, but after finally scoring a hit with "I Don't Want To Be", he released the title track from this album, which despite a slightly lower peak, ranks as his highest in here! He's continued to hit since, having had three top 10 hits on my chart to date.
427. Elliott Yamin - Wait For You (2007) PEAK: #10
Who says that only the winner gets a piece of the cake? In this case, even third place was promising for Elliott Yamin, as despite not winning American Idol, he was still able to score himself a significant hit here.
426. Finger Eleven - One Thing (2004) PEAK: #6
One of Canada's best kept secrets beforehand finally broke through into the USA and worldwide with this song, a rock ballad that took the world by storm, and kept them known for this one song... until "Paralyzer" became even MORE successful back in 2007.
425. All-American Rejects - It Ends Tonight (2006) PEAK: #7
The All-American Rejects have had several hits on my chart, mostly with upbeat pop/rock songs, but it was this ballad that took them into the top 10 on my chart for the first time. Definitely has remained one of my favourites from them to this day.
424. Shania Twain f/Mark McGrath - Party For Two (2004) PEAK: #3
This singer had released 2 versions of her album "Up!", pop and country, and included both discs in each copy. In this case, for her greatest hits, she recorded 2 completely different versions of this song! Billy Currington featured on the country version, while Sugar Ray singer Mark McGrath appeared on the pop version. We're still waiting for your new album, Shania!
423. Rihanna - Shut Up and Drive (2007) PEAK: #4
And further proving why Rihanna is one of the decade's most prominent female singers is this song, which is a pop song driven by the famous bass line of New Order's "Blue Monday". She just loves those 80's samples, doesn't she?
422. Britney Spears - Stronger (2001) PEAK: #5
Whenever Britney Spears hits #1 with the first single from an album on my chart, she usually does with the second single as well. Sometimes (such as "(You Drive Me) Crazy" or "Everytime"), the third goes to #1 as well, but in other cases (such as "Break The Ice" or this one), she falls short... and this one unfortunately got split between 2000 and 2001, but ranks in my top 500 overall.
421. Jonas Brothers - Burnin' Up (2008) PEAK: #4
And now we go to one of the most popular boybands of the past few years. These guys just have catchy, fun pop songs, this one included. They still have one more song to come, that being their big ballad.
420. Sonique - It Feels So Good (2000) PEAK: #8
One of the biggest dance hits of the early part of the decade, the UK's Sonique took the world by storm with this catchy floorfiller that's become a classic since, and one of my favourites of 2000. Whatever happened to her since?
419. 98 Degrees - I Do (Cherish You) (1999) PEAK: #6
This song started off as a country song, but reached a new audience when covered by boyband 98 Degrees back in 1999. This ends up as their highest ranking song on my top 500 list, they had several other hits, but alas, most of them did not make the top 500!
418. Kylie Minogue - Love at First Sight (2002) PEAK: #4
And now we're up to Kylie Minogue, one of Australia's most successful performers ever. The most recent phase of her legendary career has been the early part of this decade, and this was one of the most successful singles to come out of it, in the midst of her US comeback.
417. Jay-Z f/Beyoncé - '03 Bonnie & Clyde (2003) PEAK: #7
Now we're up to one of the urban music world's most successful couples; however, this was recorded long before their marriage! Jay-Z and Beyoncé showed the world how well their sounds blended together here... they still have one more song to come together, but with the billing reversed.
416. Lenny Kravitz - Again (2001) PEAK: #6
And here's a guy who's been rocking out, along with some mellower soul-influenced hits, for nearly 2 decades now. This rock ballad came well into his career, but became one of his biggest hits ever, and ranks here at #416.
415. Madonna - Die Another Day (2002) PEAK: #3
James Bond themes have generally been quite memorable, and this was one of the best of recent years. Madonna has several songs in the top 500, including yet another spy movie theme for a different franchise... but how high did that one rank?
414. Kate Voegele - Hallelujah (2008) PEAK: #1 (2 weeks)
If indie artists want to cover any song, generally this is one of their first choices. Originally written by Leonard Cohen, its most famous rendition was that done by Jeff Buckley, which has since become a cult classic. One of the most recent covers was by Kate Voegele, who makes one of many appearances in my top 500, and scored a #1 on my chart with her rendition of this standard.
413. Nelly Furtado - ...On The Radio (Remember The Days) (2001) PEAK: #7
After two of my top 10 songs of 2001, Nelly Furtado released this, and while in its album version it was called "Shit On The Radio", it was censored for the radio, and became another hit, though not quite as big as the previous 2 singles. Still many more Nelly Furtado songs to come in the top 500.
412. Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (2004) PEAK: #5
Another song whose title was changed for single release, this song was originally called "Let's Get Retarded" on the Elephunk album. The re-titling worked, as this became one of the Black Eyed Peas' biggest hits to date, and ranks here at #412.
411. Sum 41 - With Me (2008) PEAK: #6
And here's a band who normally does punk rock, but this one was slightly slower than their usual fare. I guess Avril Lavigne might've mellowed them slightly when she married lead singer Deryck Whibley! But, then again, maybe not as they still do the punk-type songs too! Regardless, this is their only appearance in the top 500.
410. Ashlee Simpson - Little Miss Obsessive (2008) PEAK: #3
Poor Ashlee... despite 2008 being the year she got married, she just wasn't able to get herself a hit! But thankfully, I did take note of her "Bittersweet World" album, and she ended up getting two top 5 hits from it, this being the second and bigger of the two.
409. Backstreet Boys - All I Have To Give (1999) PEAK: #9
Despite the album "Backstreets Back" being released in 1997, before my chart started, it had still continued to spawn singles from it into 1999, including this one, which I charted in the first few months of my chart. After this, the next five singles they'd release would all hit #1, and then they'd have 2 more #1's afterwards; all of their #1's are still to come.
408. Destiny's Child f/T.I. & Lil' Wayne - Soldier (2005) PEAK: #4
Who would've expected a song with T.I. and Lil' Wayne on it to rank in here? I'm not a fan of either of those rappers, but when they teamed up with Destiny's Child, they made a song that, while I wasn't initially fond of, grew on me enough to nearly make my top 400 of the past decade.
407. Usher - U Got It Bad (2002) PEAK: #7
Usher must've really loved the letter U in the "8701" era, as most of the tracks on there contained a "U"! This, the second single from the album, ended up being my favourite single from the album, as I like it in both ballad and remix forms.
406. Uncle Kracker - Follow Me (2001) PEAK: #4
You'd normally expect something Kid Rock-sounding, rap-metal out of his bandmate Uncle Kracker... but he surprised everyone by doing a mellow, easy-listening song that became one of 2001's biggest hits. He's continued on this route since, including a cover song that's still to come in this list.
405. Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes (1999) PEAK: #9
After the phenomenal success of their summer 1999 smash "All Star", Smash Mouth followed it up with another equally catchy song in the same vein. This song, wishing everyone a good morning, became another top 10 hit for them on my chart, their second of three. Both of the others are still to come.
404. No Doubt - It's My Life (2003) PEAK: #4
And now here's a band that, despite being one of the most popular bands of my chart's era... have not released a thing since this song! They had good reason for it, as Gwen Stefani did embark on a very successful solo career, which has placed many songs within this list. However, this Talk Talk remake did give No Doubt their most recent hit to date on my chart. Hopefully they'll be back with new music soon!
403. Delta Goodrem - A Little Too Late (2005) PEAK: #5
It took me a while to really get into Delta Goodrem, but this was one of the songs that helped me do it. While it wasn't one of her biggest hits, this was one where I felt her natural abilities shone the most, and became my favourite from her... until she released an even better song 2 years afterwards! But just how high did "In This Life" rank?
402. Eminem - Mockingbird (2005) PEAK: #6
Eminem's known for three different kinds of songs... humourous joking songs, straightforward classic hip-hop anthems and sensitive, emotional songs. This song, a lullaby to his daughter, is one of the latter, and became another top 10 hit for one of this generation's most influential cultural figures.
401. Girls Aloud - Call The Shots (2007) PEAK: #3
Girls Aloud is one band that's been very inconsistent for me, as several of their songs I haven't liked much but others I've liked more, and then there are songs that I classify as their very best, this being one of them. This midtempo electropop-influenced track became their highest peaking song on my chart to date... however, one song that peaked just a little lower for them beat it out due to more longevity within the top 40!
480. Matchbox Twenty - How Far We've Come (2007) PEAK: #3 This is one comeback that was a very unsurprising success on my chart, especially given how well Rob Thomas had done as a solo artist leading up to this! They do have several other songs to come, rather unsurprisingly; this song I loved at first, but didn't quite live up to several of their other songs. 479. Ashlee Simpson - Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya) (2008) PEAK: #4 Another return that surprised nobody on my chart, was this one. While her days of commercial success are long over, she's still managed to release catchy pop songs that have caught my ears. This one, produced by Timbaland, was another top 5 on my chart. 478. Depeche Mode - Suffer Well (2006) PEAK: #4 Now these guys really surprised me! I've enjoyed several of their older songs, but never did I imagine that they'd recapture the quality of their classics! But here they definitely did, with their best song in years. 477. Avril Lavigne - Fall To Pieces (2005) PEAK: #5 Avril Lavigne seems to have rotten luck with four singles, as I usually do enjoy her albums, but quite often, she releases the wrong singles, and if she releases the right single, it's too late! This one was one of my favourites on the album, and while I preferred the first 3 singles, which all hit #1, the "Under My Skin" album I felt had the right single choices, this included. 476. Finger Eleven - I'll Keep Your Memory Vague (2007) PEAK: #10 I got tired of their song "Paralyzer" quite fast due to overplay, but this one I enjoyed a lot more. It was a slower song, reminiscent of "One Thing" (which is still to come), and became one of my favourite songs from them. 475. Timbaland f/OneRepublic - Apologize (2007) PEAK: #8 This is another song that got overplayed, but it was one I did like enough before the overplay (and like again now that I don't hear it every hour), that it made the list. I do prefer OneRepublic's follow-up "Stop & Stare" though, and that's higher up, but this breakthrough single from them (thanks to Timbaland's remixing) made a big impact too. 474. Avril Lavigne - Losing Grip (2003) PEAK: #4 Once again, it's another fourth single from Avril! "Let Go" is one album where I feel a lot of the unreleased album tracks were better than some of the singles, and I felt this was a weaker single choice, hence its lower ranking. 473. Wave - Think It Over (2001) PEAK: #9 These guys had a few hits in Canada in the early part of the decade, and this, their second single, was one of their best. Their breakthrough hit "California" is still to come. 472. Fastball - Out Of My Head (1999) PEAK: #10 Following up their 1998 smash "The Way" was a hard thing to do given how big a hit it was, but this song, which is just about two and a half minutes long, did the job as it gave them another top 10 hit. 471. BBMak - Back Here (2000) PEAK: #11 And now we're at a British boyband who also had a few hits in the early years of the decade. This one, while it missed my top 10, still managed the longevity to make the top 500 of the past 10 years. | ||||
