Freaky Fly Bry's Top 100 - July 29, 2018

To preface this week... I wish Demi Lovato the best of luck in getting the help she needs following her recent overdose that sent her to the hospital and hope that she will recover from her addictions. This week, she does something nobody other than Kelly Clarkson or Kate Voegele has done in the past four years - spend more than four weeks at #1, as her deeply personal song about her struggles, "Sober" spends a fifth straight week at #1, becoming her longest running #1 of her career on my chart so far. The last song to spend more than 4 weeks at #1 not by Kate or Kelly? Marianas Trench's instruction manual on how to create a pop hit, "Pop 101", which spent 5 weeks at #1 in the summer of 2014.

One song enters the top 10 this week, and it's 90's college rockers the Gin Blossoms, who get their first top 10 hit in 8 years with "Break", the lead single from their latest album "Mixed Reality". Look out for potentially Kygo/Imagine Dragons, Sheryl Crow/Annie Clark and a posthumously released single from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers to make moves towards the top 10 in the coming weeks, along with covers of Toto by Weezer and ABBA by Cher.

Entering the top 40 are the legendary Paul McCartney from his first album in five years, boy band In Real Life, country-pop siren Kacey Musgraves and indie rockers Twenty One Pilots.

The highest entry this week is the fifth charting single from Pink's "Beautiful Trauma" album, closely followed by the return of Canadian indie rock favourites Metric. Overall, 17 debuts cover a wide range of genres, including 90's alternative rockers The Offspring and 311 covering each other's songs.
