Prior to this, back in 2002, the biggest leap to #1 was by Eminem when "Lose Yourself" moved up from 47-1 in a week. And last year, Michelle Branch leaped 100-6 with her single "Hopeless Romantic". This week, Demi Lovato outdoes them both as she scores her 9th #1 with the emotional, personal ballad "Sober", leaping from her #96 debut last week all the way to #1!
What makes Demi's rise more remarkable is that she breezes right by the #2-4 songs this week, including a Guess Who cover by Kelly Clarkson and two songs from Kate Voegele's album "Canyonlands"! Kate and Kelly are the two most successful artists ever on my chart, with 22 and 24 #1's each to their credit.
As Train's former #1 with Hall & Oates, "Philly Forget Me Not", hangs into the top 10, Train lands another top 10 collaboration - this time with country singer Cam and Gym Class Heroes rapper Travie McCoy. It's their 8th top 10 overall, but the first time they have two at the same time. This isn't the first time they take a collaboration with a country singer into the top 10 as Ashley Monroe appeared on their song "Bruises".
Not only does Demi Lovato enjoy the new #1 this week, she also lands yet another top 10 hit as her collaboration with Clean Bandit, "Solo", rises into the top 10 as well becoming her 16th top 10 so far as well as Clean Bandit's first after a streak of appearances. This is the third time she has had simultaneous top 10's; in September 2014, "Really Don't Care" shared the spotlight with her collaboration with The Vamps, "Somebody To You", and last December, "Sexy Dirty Love" and "Tell Me You Love Me" were top 10 at the same time.
The highest debut is a collaboration between EDM star Kygo and alternative pop-rock superstars Imagine Dragons; "Born To Be Yours" is already Kygo's highest charting song, and Imagine Dragons are looking for their second top 10 hit following the #1 "Demons" five years ago.
The next two debuts come from 90's college rockers, the Gin Blossoms with their first appearance in 8 years, and the 7th song to chart from Kelly Clarkson's "Meaning Of Life" album, "Heat". So far, every track that has charted from Kelly's album has reached the top five so "Heat" has high expectations.
Also of note: Ed Sheeran re-enters with "Happier" after five weeks off the chart. I can't even remember the last time I had a re-entry, must have been about two years ago when Gwen Stefani re-entered with "Misery" after just a week off.
